(Slightly belated post. Please don’t hate me.)

How is it November already? It feels like just last week I wrote the September: A Month In Review post. I really am sorry about not posting much this last month, I’ve been incredibly busy. October is always the busiest month at my job, so I was able to get a lot more hours at the expense of my writing time.

But finally, at long last, my October; in review!

Life Updates

  • I got my ears pierced! Hooray! After five months and lots of panicking, I finally sat myself in the chair and let the lady stab my earlobes. She was really nice, and even though it hurt more than I expected, it was an overall great experience. And now I get to wear these cute turquoise studs!
  • I think I’ve finally gotten over the hump of being the “new girl” at work. I’m making some great friends and it’s not as awkward, and I finally know how to do stuff (lol). My supervisor (who I think likes me) has been giving me some bigger roles, which is really fun. Plus, I made it through my first busy season working there without running anyone over with the tractor.
  • My family and I are currently on our cross-country road trip! It’s so fun, and I’m planning on making a whole separate post about it. So far, we’ve been to New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas. We are just now beginning to come back home.
  • At last, I’ve gotten back into riding horses. The owner of the horse rescue I volunteer at finally texted me back and invited me to ride one of their fresh-out-of-training three year olds. He’s only got one eye, but he’s such a sweetheart and did great when I rode him. Since then, I’ve been riding a spicy Arabian mare, but she’s been teaching me so much.

Writing Updates

Small Town Star

*a dry wind blows across the manuscript, a tumbleweed rolling along the page*

Basically no progress. But never fear! Maybe if I shake Cassidy long enough, she’ll talk to me.

However, I have been working on a super-secret project, which is already at 7,332 words, which is 41% of the way to my goal, per Reedsy’s evaluation! I’m super excited about it. Maybe, if I finish a good portion of it, I’ll post about it.

Reading

I… uh… only finished two books. *hides*

Technically only one, but by the time of posting, I just finished another book. I DNF two books, A Thousand Heartbeats and Dearest Josephine.

The first one was Return Of The Vengeful Queen by C. J. Redwine. Really, really great end to the storyline. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and had a clean, satisfying ending. Loved it! Highly recommend.

The second book I finished on Nov. 4th. The Shadow Queen (also by C. J. Redwine) was AMAZING and I LOVED IT and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. Probably more a new adult book, though. It didn’t go into any detail, but when the Draconi shift from their dragons into their humans, they don’t have any clothes on. Which was a detail that really annoyed me, like why did the author have to include that?? But OTHERWISE it was GREAT. This was my first ever fairytale retelling and now I’m hooked.

I was immediately going to buy the next book in the series, but then I realized that they are all standalone novels, and none of the other storylines seemed as compelling for me to read. So now I’m at a loss of what to read.

Music

Y’ALL! FORREST FRANK HAS A NEW ALBUM!!! YAY!!!!!!!!

Well, not really new I suppose, it’s a deluxe version of his CHILD OF GOD album. But if you haven’t heard UPS & DOWNS and HEAVEN ON THIS EARTH (you must listen to them in that order), get up and do it!

I have also found some AMAZING new Christian songs that I LOVE. Holy Trouble by Rend Collective, Up + Up by Colton Dixon, Like It’s Nothing by Mac Powell, Milk & Honey by Crowder, Sound Of Heaven and wannabe by Danny Gokey, and Pharaoh (Let My People Go) by Brandon Lake have been on repeat this month.

For country, Cody Johnson has once again been my go-to. Not much change there.

For Next (This) Month…

My goal is to finish the first draft of my top-secret project this month, and the way I’m writing, it should happen! But inspiration comes and goes. One of the POV’s is really hard to write, and I always get a little stuck when I have to write his chapters.

I don’t have any books in the TBR (crazy, right?!), so I’m looking for suggestions! My favorite genre is YA (clean) fantasy. I also don’t mind dystopian. I would looooove your suggestions 😉

I’m also hoping to post more! What do you want to read more about on my blog?

Thank you so much for reading, have a blessed day!

You’ve got some great progress here! Maybe not a ton writing-wise, but life is a thing. I need to check out more Forrest Frank music! My current fave is “The Truth” by Megan Woods. So good! I sing at the top of my lungs every time it comes on LOL

Life is indeed a thing 🤣 Yes, I love his music! Maybe not all of his songs, but a lot of them are really good. I haven’t heard that one! I’ll have to check it out 🙂

Hi! This is a really great post by the way!!

That’s so cool you got your ears pierced!

Have you ever read The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini? You probably have, but if not, it’s a really good clean YA fantasy. A bit slow to start, but still good!

The Sinking City by Christine Cohen is also a good lesser known Christian fantasy, but it’s a bit more middle school than YA. It was my favourite book for like 3 years though, and I read it 12 times in like a year and a half lol

A Mermaid’s Tale is also a good fantasy, but it’s a bit more simplistic. Again, middle grade. It’s based on the Little Mermaid fairy tale. The Anderson’s little mermaid is the main character’s great (or great great, but I can’t remember which) grandmother.

They’re my recommendations! Also, I can’t imagine having nothing on my TBR! How did you manage it!?

Ahaha thank you! I haven’t read any of those so I’ll have to check them out! I don’t know why, because I had a really long TBR, but I think I lost the list because I can’t find it 🤣

It sounds like you’ve had a great time, and yay to wearing cute earrings! I got my ears pierced as a kid, else I might never have been able to get past the idea of pain as a grown up 😂 Enjoy your trip!
